Overview
Okara became a district in 1982 and the Deputy Commissioner of Okara at that time, Mr. Tariq Mahmood thought of establishing a quality school at district headquarters. He formed a welfare organization called “IQRA Foundation” in 1983 to launch certain welfare schemes with priority for education. lqra Foundation School was established in 1983 with a modest beginning. When Mr. Kashif Murtaza took over as Deputy Commissioner Okara in Feb 1987, he visualized a comprehensive scheme to upgrade the school. A new project was launched in Sep 1987 that envisaged a quality High School & College for the city. The School was shifted to new building in May 1988. In 1989 the name of the school was changed to District Public School Okara. On 1st Sep 1993 boys were shifted some 200m away in the present building situated in front of Civil Defence office. In a few years, DPS & College became one of the prestigious institutions of the Punjab by achieving excellent academic standards. In 2003 DCO Mr. Khalid Masood Ch. upgraded both the high schools to Intermediate Colleges. Students have been enjoying the facility of Riding Club since 2006. In 2005 Hifz classes were started in DPS & College and Multi-purpose hall, college block in boys wing, new block for Girls College Section and a separate Hifz Block was constructed.
Literary Societies:
Literary Societies have been established by DPS since its origin. These societies leave no stone unturned to create a healthy
atmosphere for:

Houses:
Learning inside the classroom is continued even outside the classroom, too. Students are encouraged to become members of the Student Houses to participate in a wide range of Co-Curricular activities such as: drama, debates, exhibitions, science fairs and essay competition etc. Houses exhibits the diversity of interests and talents among students. Sports and exercise are important for the physical as well as mental health of the students. DPS has all the requisite infrastructure for the purpose. The teams bring laurels to their alma mater by securing top positions in various sports events.
