Overview:
Okara becomes a District in 1982 and the Deputy Commissioner of okara at that time, Mr. Tariq Mehmood thought of establishing a quality school at district headquarters. He formed a welfare organization called “Iqra Foundation” in 1983 to launch certain welfare schemes with the priority of education. Iqra foundation school was established in 1983 with a modest beginning. when Mr.Kashif Murtaza took over as Deputy Commissioner of Okara in Feb 1987, he visualized a comprehensive scheme to upgrade a school. A new project was launched in Sep 1987 that envisaged a high-quality H/S & College for the city. The school was shifted to a new building in May 1988. In 1990 the name of the school was changed to District Public School okara. On 1st Sep 1993 boys have shifted some 200m away in the present building situated in front of the Civil Defence Office. In a few years, DPS & C become one of the prestigious institutions of Punjab by achieving excellent academic standards. The result of SSCE for the previous 5 Years is a good indicator of its glorious achievements, In 2003, on demand of the public, the DCO at that time Mr. Khalid Masood ch. took a bold step to upgrade both the high school to Intermediate Colleges. Students have been enjoying the facility of the Riding club since 2006. With the personal involvement of DCO Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, Hifz classes have been started in DPS & C in Multi-purpose hall, college block in boys wing, a new block for Girls College Section and a separated Hifz block have been complete.
